【原文】步贪其爵号，遂受之。乃理兵于剧，以弟弘为卫将军，弘弟蓝玄武大将军，蓝弟寿高密太守。遣将徇太山、东莱、城阳、胶东、北海、济南、齐诸郡，皆下之。步拓地浸广，兵甲日盛。

【白话】张步贪图爵位，于是接受了梁王刘永的册封。接着他在剧县（今山东寿光南）整顿军队，他任命自己的大弟弟张弘为卫将军，二弟张蓝为玄武大将军，三弟张寿为高密太守。又派手下将领出兵攻打并占领了太山、东莱、城阳、胶东、北海、济南、以及齐郡（今山东淄博）等地。
张步占领的地区逐渐得到扩张，武力也日复一日的强盛。
